Building your future

A construction company. One team, start to finish.

JJC is a carpentry and construction company. Timber framing, groundworks, formwork, brickwork, joinery and finish works are the trades we come from, and they are still most of what we do every day. We put those skills into garden redesigns and full garden landscaping, garden rooms and garden offices, and building work for homes across West Sussex and Surrey, with swimming pools, swim spas and other wellness spaces alongside.

Every job is bespoke, designed around your garden, your house and how you want to use the space, not picked from a catalogue. We build with sustainably sourced timber and eco-friendly materials, because a space made for your wellbeing should be gentle on the planet too.

You deal with the same small team from the first sketch to the final detail, and customers say the same things again and again: the work is explained every step of the way, the team turns up when they say they will, the site is left spotless, and there are no hidden fees.

What we do

Everything we do, done by our own team

Six clear services, all bespoke to your property. Most projects use more than one, which is exactly why we keep them all in house: one team from the first sketch to the final detail.

Garden landscaping and garden redesign

Garden design, full garden landscaping and whole-garden redesigns, plus the individual jobs that make up one: decking, sleeper terraces, patios, driveways, lawns, planting and pathways. The groundworks and excavation are done by our own team, so one crew takes the garden from the first dig to the final detail. A calm retreat, a space for entertaining or somewhere for the children to play, designed around your style and built with materials that last.

Groundworks, formwork and brickwork

The part most people never see, done properly. Formwork shapes concrete into foundations, slabs, walls and columns, and it is where the company's roots are: fifteen years of formwork on bridges and tunnels before JJC. Getting this right is what gives a pool, spa or garden room its strength for decades.

Wellness and Fitness spaces, built by carpenters and builders

Your outdoor space can be more than a backdrop. It can be a sanctuary for health, relaxation and connection: a home gym you use every morning, a swim spa for training and recovery, a sauna and ice bath for the end of the day. Each one is a construction job before it is a luxury. It needs a properly formed base, a structure that will take the weight and the weather, and then the decking, cladding, steps and screening that make it look like it was always meant to be there.

Because we are carpenters and builders first, we do all of it ourselves, designed for your space, with one team and one point of contact.

“Jamie takes great care in his work, and explains his approach every step of the way. He thinks outside the box for clever and creative solutions when unexpected challenges arise during the build, and is also open to new ideas. The work started and was completed on time. Jamie is good at communication, easy to contact, and he always responds promptly. We are delighted with our new decking!”

“We recently moved and had a dangerous staircase where every step was a different height. We had been told that taking out the whole staircase and starting again was the only option. Jamie inspired us with confidence in his ability to find a solution from our very first contact with him. He worked literally step by step with meticulous measurements to even out the stairs without a total rebuild and with minimal disruption. He talked us through the whole process as he went along and carried out the work professionally and to a very high standard. A great job!”

About JJC

From bridges and tunnels to the garden behind your house

JJC is a family run team led by Jamie Melling. Before starting the company, Jamie spent fifteen years building bridges, tunnels and some of the most interesting structures around the world, and was the carpenter on Lord and Lady Bamford's private farm at Daylesford.

JJC began with a small team of local apprentices. Today it is four tradesmen with a combined 55 years of experience, trading as JJC Joinery and Construction Limited since 2025.

The approach is the same as it was on day one: honesty and quality, and a personal and professional service from start to finish. Every job is bespoke, designed and built for the space it sits in.

Honesty and quality

The two words on our Facebook page and the two things every job is judged on. Fair rates, no hidden fees, and work that lasts.

Personal from start to finish

From the first sketch to the final detail you deal with the same team. The people who quote the job are the people who build it.

Bespoke, creative solutions

Every job is designed for its space, and customers say we think outside the box: a staircase saved without a rebuild, a new door in a frame nobody else would touch.

Eco-friendly by default

Sustainably sourced, FSC-certified timber, proper insulation and durable, low-maintenance materials, so the space is kind to the planet as well as to you.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

The things people usually want to know before they get in touch.

Do you do garden design, full garden redesigns and landscaping?

Yes. We take on garden design, whole-garden redesigns and full garden landscaping, as well as the individual jobs that make up one: composite and timber decking, sleeper terraces, porcelain patios, driveways, lawns, planting and pathways. Groundworks and excavation are done in house, so the job stays with one team from the first dig to the final finish.

Which areas do you cover?

We are based in Littlehampton and cover West Sussex and Surrey, including Rustington, Worthing, Angmering, East Preston, Arundel, Bognor Regis, Findon, Billingshurst and Dorking. If you are nearby but not listed, get in touch anyway.

Are quotes free?

Yes. Call 07851 626543, send a WhatsApp or use the form on this page and the team will come back to you to talk through the job and arrange a free, no obligation quote.

Can you build a home gym or garden office in my garden?

Yes. Our garden rooms are fully insulated with 100mm insulation and fitted with FSC-certified double-glazed timber windows and doors, so they work as a gym, office or studio all year round. They are available in a range of styles and finishes.

Do you do the groundworks and concrete as well as the carpentry?

Yes. Groundworks, excavation, formwork, concreting and brickwork are all done in house, so a swim spa, pool, garden room or extension stays with one team from the first dig to the final finish.

Do you install swim spas and hot tubs, or just build the base and decking?

Both. We handle the whole installation: excavation and groundworks, the concrete base and formwork, coordinating the crane lift with the spa supplier, then the decking, steps, screening and landscaping around it. Recent swim spa projects have been completed alongside Hydropool, Hot Tub Medics and Southern Cranes.

Who will be doing the work?

JJC is a family run business with four tradesmen and a combined 55 years of experience. The team that quotes the job is the team that builds it, with the owner on site throughout.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 1:30pm. Closed on Sundays. You can send a WhatsApp or use the form at any time and we will reply when we are next in.

Are the materials you use eco-friendly?

Sustainability runs through the way we build. Our garden rooms use 100mm insulation and FSC-certified double-glazed timber windows and doors, we work with sustainably sourced timber, and we choose durable, low-maintenance materials so what we build lasts. A space made for your wellbeing should be gentle on the planet too.

Do you work with schools and businesses as well as homeowners?

Yes. We build play areas, trim trails and outdoor classrooms for schools and local authorities, and we have completed shop fit-outs and beer garden seating for commercial customers, alongside our domestic work.
